ABSTRACT

In recent years, a series of political reports, as well as academic and strategy papers, have addressed the pervasive issue of limited prospects for youth to unlock opportunities and reach their full potential. This chapter addresses and assesses the scholarly and political-strategic debate regarding youths and entrepreneurship in Zimbabwe. It seeks to articulate a solution-oriented approach to domains of youth entrepreneurship challenges, through proffering key policy recommendations for youth entrepreneurship enrichment in Zimbabwe. The chapter focuses on movement towards a greater integration of youth entrepreneurial development approaches and national development. It highlights the prevailing narrative on Zimbabwean youths and the prospects for participation and benefitting from opportunities in the Zimbabwean economy. Additionally, as Majuru asserts, youths can be organized into productive groups, where they can contribute to logistics and other costs, strengthening their capacity to export. Besides youth entrepreneurship empowerment funds, informally employed and entrepreneurial youth-targeted robust social security schemes are required in Zimbabwe.
