ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the role of entrepreneurship in emerging economies with special emphasis on Ghana. Key challenges facing entrepreneurs in emerging markets and efforts aimed at transforming and sustaining such efforts are discussed. The chapter looks at the theoretical underpinning of entrepreneurship in emerging economies; discusses the role of entrepreneurship in the economy of these countries. It highlights key challenges facing entrepreneurs in such countries. The chapter contains the efforts made at transforming and sustaining entrepreneurship as a tool for economic growth and development. It deals with the conclusions and policy recommendations. To further enhance the contribution of entrepreneurship and SMEs to the economies of emerging countries, there is a need for the coordination of entrepreneurship activities. Furthermore, entrepreneurship practice and policy must emphasize a sustainable transformational entrepreneurship program. There is a need to promote and build innovative businesses that promote sustainable industrialization.
