ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book identifies how best to enable practitioners and their managers to work with children and their families in this post-registration phase of the child protection process. It explores four major themes which people feel form the key components for effective post-registration practice: (1) a framework for practice, (2) effective methods of professional intervention, (3) the interface between professionals and the family, and (4) understanding and valuing the contributions of different disciplines. The book defines a framework that can be utilised and adapted by Area Child Protection Committees. It explores the context for current post-registration practice and shows why there are gaps and ambiguities in national guidance. The book focuses on the interface between the professionals and the family.
