ABSTRACT

A long time ago, in a hospital far, far away, I was a psychiatric consultant to a cardiology unit. Joe, a cardiologist friend of mine, confided in me his disagreement with the generally accepted theory that people with Type A personalities developed more heart disease (Friedman & Rosenman, 1959; Rosenman, Brand, Sholtz, & Friedman, 1976). Being a skeptical sort myself, I thought we should investigate.
