ABSTRACT

The building of the unit to support online learning involves multiple areas within the Pyramid of Online Learning Support. These include the role of leadership to champion the effort and the resources available in some of the foundational and support areas, such as information technology, finance, student support, and faculty support. This chapter discusses the financials of online learning programs. It provides the pros and cons of using enablers to help learners' program go online. The Next-Generation Online Learning Unit has many tasks, including encouraging interactive and diverse online learning development and learning experience. This experience evolves based on the needs of the learner. Some of the earliest online learning efforts began as initiatives within online departments. Starting from a handful of courses, looking to experiment or meeting the needs of overcrowded on-campus classes, academic departments started to embrace the idea of possible full degrees online.
