ABSTRACT

The introductory chapter of ‘Together Old and Young: An Intergenerational Approach’ provides a broad ranging overview of the topic of intergenerational learning (IGL) involving young children and older adults. It traces its development internationally, discusses definitions of IGL and provides an overview of the art of IGL both as area of practice and a focus of multi-disciplinary research. The vision and goals of the Together Old and Young (TOY) approach to IGL will be also introduced in this chapter. In the final part of the chapter, readers will be introduced to the structure of the book and its contents.
