ABSTRACT

This chapter offers a review of the rich and diverse literature on collaborative autoethnography interwoven with a critical, personal, and political collaborative autoethnography. We outline the origins and development of collaborative approaches to autoethnography, the diverse approaches that have been used to date, and the relationships that may be called into being when autoethnographic researchers choose to collaborate. We see an important hallmark of collaborative autoethnography to be an openness to, and playful experimentation with, multiple voices and forms. Innovation and multiplicity, we suggest, enrich a field where difference and diversity are not only welcomed and very much at home but also essential.
