ABSTRACT

Writing is that medium through which a writer emerges, and publication is the medium through which authors are recognized. Writing doesn’t always bear the stamp of some kind of officially acknowledged approval, whereas publishing often does. And that’s why to emerge as a writer is different from being recognized as an author. Though we often find ourselves in a context that values only being a published author, this chapter questions such an ideology and explores ideas about how to value the writing of autoethnography outside of publication.
