ABSTRACT

There are many islands within the Pacific Ocean, yet there is only one Oceania, and one perceived way of traversing our Moana. In this chapter we recognise the dividing and “perceived” conquering of our islands and ways of knowing and being that are persistently shaped by colonisation. In this chapter, we collectively wayfind with critical autoethnography as a way to reclaim our “Tapu” (sacred) as part of our collective. We begin our wayfinding first with a piece of artwork and then continue our voyage to what we believe as being our most tapu constructed and mediated within and through “us”. Our spirituality is demonstrated through karakia (prayer). We then traverse into the spaces of whanau (family) and education and finally closing off as one.
