ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the inquiry process I employed to develop Philosophy for Children (P4C) resources, using as a case study three resources I published: Connecting concepts, Thinking with rich concepts, and Developing a thinking classroom. I describe the theory of teaching and learning I applied to guide the practice of teachers; the process of collaborative philosophical inquiry, which I reverse engineered and simplified to make it more accessible for philosophically novice teachers and students; and finally, I describe how to incorporate the fundamentals of philosophical inquiry across the curriculum, especially to cultivate scientific thinking, mathematical problem solving, or other forms of disciplinary thinking.
