ABSTRACT

Between 1984 and 1992 the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children (IAPC) curriculum was the main resource being used by schools introducing philosophy for children in New South Wales and Victoria. This is a largely forgotten period of educational experimentation with philosophy for children (p4c) resources in Australia. Drawing on recordings from classes, examples of students’ work and teacher reflections, we will explore how the IAPC materials were utilised in five schools and how both students and teachers responded to them. The chapter ends by looking at the impact of this experimentation on the development of the television series Lift Off.
