ABSTRACT

The bourgeois ideal of family became prevalent on, single motherhood, especially in the upper class, became more and more unthinkable. The single motherhood has also proclaims to be an alternative form of life to the traditional parental family. The changes with regard to birth control have taken place to such an extent that the pill has not only made possible the planning or prevention of pregnancy, but has also left the decision of whether or not to have children more or less entirely to women. The quantitative survey confirms that the decision by the mothers in sample who remained unmarried to have the child is taken by them alone. The thesis of the nest—builders is also based on the assumption that marriage no longer holds any attraction for certain women. The vast majority who remain unmarried, it is not a question of the child having been deserted by the father.
