ABSTRACT

Catholic Institute for Development, Justice, Peace and Caritas (CIDJAP) is a non-governmental, and non-profit charitable and religious-humanitarian organization. CIDJAP is recognized by the pontifical Council on Justice and Peace in the Vatican and is a registered Non-Governmental Organization in Nigeria, under the Corporate Affairs Commission. CIDJAP promotes human values and its orientation via education and social ethics; Catholic social teaching, training, and leadership Programmes; lobbying for the weakest and the socially marginalized. Non-Governmental Organisation’s in the language of Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development (SARD) are called to champion the ‘battle for recognition of the social and environmental damage being caused by economic growth, terms of exchange on world markets and the increasing divorce between natural processes and agricultural development’. SARD’s purpose was to suggest ‘how to harmonise agricultural Development with nature in order to respond to the growing realisation that modern agricultural practices are simply not sustainable and will not ensure food and fibre needs into the coming century’.
