ABSTRACT

The fundamental underlying question that arises from this interpretation of developments is how much more growth can and should Hong Kong absorb. Hong Kong also offers places of recreation and leisure that are the envy of other cities in the region, hosts the largest number of Rolls Royces, restaurants and banks per square kilometre and - for what it is worth employs among the highest paid academics and civil servants. While the territory is well known for the many stereotypes with which it has been associated in the past, beneath this surface is hidden one of the most dynamic and some would claim, successful, economies in South-east Asia. The public light bus service perhaps constitutes the most flexible component of public transport provision in the territory, albeit a source of increased air pollution and Triad involvement.
