ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the labour market citizenship with the concept of social contract and distinguish a third level of social activity and beyond the traditional levels of family and society. It considers this level to exist as an institutionally invisible dimension between the individual and the structures of society. The chapter explores reinforces and solidifies the individual in relation to society's goals and creates opportunities for society to influence his/her life path. It focuses on issues associated with the entry of young people on to the job market and the exit of older citizens from the job market as well as on the new dimensions these transitions seem to have acquired in the 1990s. The chapter discusses labour market citizenship primarily by the traditional dimensions of citizenship with their attendant rights and obligations: civil rights, which are defined in legislation; political representation, generally determined by universal suffrage.
