ABSTRACT

A keen knowledge of ourselves, our self-concept and identity, and how we manage interactions with others undoubtedly is advantageous in the complex process of negotiating and taking up authority. Counselling psychologists have a leadership vantage point providing a platform from which vision and values can be seen and heard. Diversity at all levels in an organisation such as the NHS is of paramount importance. The chapter invites readers to open themselves to the possibility that black women can lead effectively and describes how emotional intelligence is an essential component of effective leadership.
