ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the importance of a strong awareness of diversity amongst applied psychology trainees. It is suggested that trainees should be able to demonstrate a high degree of multi-cultural competency, and that this should be linked to a view of themselves as champions of social justice. It is further suggested that as trainees aspire to become future leaders, they should see these aspirations as integral to such roles. Ways in which training courses can respond to these imperatives are outlined and discussed. A range of practical suggestions are summarised at the end.
