ABSTRACT
Integrating the arts with mixed methods research reflects a valuing of divergence, dialogue, and difference consistent with a mixed methods way of thinking. Arts can help generate new perspectives and possibilities, and reveal complexities of the human experience that are not otherwise accessible. Currently, arts-mixed methods research (arts-MMR) is nascent in status. In this chapter, new possibilities for merging the arts and mixed methods research are offered through exemplars for research conceptualization, planning, implementation, and dissemination. These exemplars encourage creative exploration, methodological boundary pushing, and engagement with uncertainty; extend notions of integration; and offer alternatives to prevailing epistemological emphases in research. These characteristics add value to mixed methods research in light of the full integration challenge.
