ABSTRACT

In this chapter, various conceptual perspectives on the role of emotions in parenting are summarized and integrated into a single model, and various pathways by which parental emotions may influence child outcomes are described. Then, relevant literature is summarized. After establishing the central role of parental emotions in predicting individual differences in parental behavior and child outcomes, factors that may contribute to individual differences in parenting-related emotions and emotion regulation are reviewed. The chapter ends with a discussion of applied implications of this work and suggest directions for future research.
