ABSTRACT
Nick Cook’s work covers an astonishing range of topics and approaches, as the responses to that work in this volume demonstrate. It would therefore be foolhardy, and perhaps fruitless, to attempt any kind of final summary of what that body of work adds up to. What this Afterword aims to do instead is to identify and comment upon some of the strands and preoccupations that emerge both from Nick’s own writing and from the responses of others to it, and-following the remix theme of the book as a whole-to mix into that some observations on Nick as a person, encountered through the various contexts in which I have known him. These anecdotes or vignettes are intended to give some sense of the warm and generous-spirited person that lies behind and is reflected in the astonishing body of work that he has produced over the last 35 years-with no doubt plenty more to come.
