ABSTRACT

Sewerby Hall is a Grade I listed country house set in 55 acres of parkland and gardens on the outskirts of Bridlington. The area is predominantly rural and noted for the chalk uplands of the Yorkshire Wolds. Dating back to the 18th century and formerly the home of the Lloyd Greame family, the hall came into public ownership in 1934. In 2012 the Museum Service obtained funding through the National Lottery to restore the house to the appearance it had in 1910. Since 2013, East Riding of Yorkshire Museums Service (ERYMS) has worked in collaboration with Hull Museums and North Lincolnshire Museum Service to carry out joint initiatives for exhibitions, learning and outreach. At Sewerby Hall I developed a range of interventions in order to increase access to collections and exhibitions for under 5s and their families. The nominated ERYMS venue was Sewerby Hall and Gardens, with a particular focus on the house itself.
