ABSTRACT

Manchester Art Gallery sits within Libraries, Galleries and Culture as part of the Neighbourhoods Service, in the Growth and Neighbourhoods Directorate of Manchester City Council. It showcases art and ideas from across the world, inside a centrally located iconic building, close to the other municipal buildings of Manchester Town Hall and Central Library. Prior to the Healthy Child Drop-In and Baby Stay and Play, Naomi Kendrick was the lead artist on a Baby Art Club delivered monthly at the gallery. This was similar in terms of her creating an immersive installation, but in the Art Club the families’ motivation for coming to the museum was about having a positive and stimulating shared experience for parent and baby in a cultural setting rather than accessing health advice. Naomi has observed and attuned herself to what kinds of materials babies respond well to and uses these observations when building the environments for the Healthy Child Drop-In and Baby Stay and Play.
