ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the trajectory of Indian migrant students and considers how different types of students (undergraduate, master’s and doctoral) experience their relocation in terms of cultural orientation and maintenance of home culture. In order to fully comprehend this process, it is crucial to observe the migrant student’s journey, as it would essentially unfold for them, starting from their motivations to come to the UK, the transnational activities they engage in and any signs of assimilation with the host country’s culture. The present chapter examines the intellectual, emotional and socio-cultural experience of the Indian migrant students and the role of symbolic homeland. The forms and intensities of the transnational attachments they maintain through these transformative journeys, which will govern their experience during their stay in the UK.
