ABSTRACT

The key aim of this chapter is to improve recognition and management of the patient who has problems with maintaining airway patency and/or cardiopulmonary arrest and to explore the issues that surround the end of life associated with emergencies in the acute care setting. This chapter outlines airway management and the actions required along with the underpinning rationale in the event of a cardiopulmonary arrest. It is based on the latest published guidance from the Resuscitation Council UK.
