ABSTRACT
In this chapter, four key areas – the applied anatomy and physiology of the renal system, common acute renal problems affecting patients, renal assessment and the ways in which renal status can be optimised through nursing care and multidisciplinary management – are discussed. The aim is to familiarise the reader with the functions of the kidney and the presentation and management of acute renal problems.
