ABSTRACT

Have you seen a movie, read a book or used an instructional resource recently where Indigenous Peoples and cultures were represented in the present day rather than in the past? Where the cultural perspectives and/or language part of a story relate to an event in today’s Indigenous People’s culture? Some libraries include Indigenous resources, but the information is often set in the past with a sense that Indigenous Peoples and cultures have disappeared. Educators at Strong Nations in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada asked, “How can we create UDL learning and teaching strategies to address the under representation of present-day Indigenous perspectives?” Kerry Armstrong, Brenda Boreham and Terri Mack will demonstrate the UDL principles that are embedded in the “We Are All Connected” series of books.
