ABSTRACT

This vignette focuses on a multimodal design approach for online courses to move content beyond text-based curriculum and activities. A flexible and high-engagement approach encompasses a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework. Examples of multimodal learning in an online teaching program can include audio, video, and visual-based content authored by both instructors and students. Accessibility and flexibility, key components of UDL, are fostered by adding captioning, transcripts, and multiple ways to access content.
