ABSTRACT

It has been the practice of the journal on occasion to include keynote addresses and other papers from the BIAPT annual conference, and this paper by John Swinton was given in 2011. In keeping with the dialogical nature of practical theology keynote addresses normally have a respondent, and Jill Harshaw, who had previously published her BIAPT dissertation-prize-winning work, ‘Prophetic Voices, Silent Words: The Prophetic Role of Persons with Profound Intellectual Disabilities in Contemporary Christianity’, in Practical Theology 3.3 made the response. We have included these pieces both because of the high quality of the practical theological discussion within them, and because of the way they model a constructive critical dialogue, with theory, practice, and theology integrated throughout the discussion.
