ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on how to explain the Norwegian kindergarten to parents from another cultural background and how to establish trust between the childcare institution and the parents. Norway represents a culture in which childhood and childcare are seen as important and regulated at the level of the state and the pedagogical traditions rooted in the Nordic holistic model of childcare. The Polish kindergarten is under close control of the the National Hygiene Inspectorate. This makes food preparation in the kindergarten highly regulated, procedural and complicated. It has to be prepared in kitchens with very high standards of hygiene and safety, made by qualified people and only using products from approved sources. The kindergarten is obliged to cooperate with parents, because it is an important dimension of the teacher’s professionalism and international parents depend on early education and care in order to implement their plans for economic migration, which most of the time are about work.
