ABSTRACT

The training system for educational staff working in Early Childhood Education and Care services is dichotomous in Greece, where two different professional titles are used to ‘distinguish between similar staff working in different settings’. Teachers of Early Childhood Education are graduates of pedagogical departments of pre-primary education, operating at universities across the country. The School Advisor offers scientific and pedagogical guidance aiming at daily teaching needs, the encouragement of initiatives and the creation of positive incentives in education. In the framework of self-evaluating the school units, the school advisor along with the head teacher and the teacher assemble, organise and implement school-based activities for further instruction and training, which contribute to teachers’ continuing professional development. The teaching staff in Child and Infant/Child Centres are expected to inform parents once a month about the general and comprehensive development of the child, including health-related and hygiene issues.
