ABSTRACT

The benefits of approaching Early Years education in partnership with parents are well documented and widely used in English schools and Early Years settings. This chapter looks at the benefits of adapting different educational philosophies and ways in which these can be synthesised to involve parents in an Early Years setting. High House Montessori Day Nursery children are welcomed as ‘competent unique individuals, capable of great things’, and the child’s learning journey whilst at the setting proceeds in partnership with parents. High House offers care and education to babies and children from three months of age until they start school, at age four years. The nursery used to schedule ‘Parents’ Evenings’ on specific dates and give parents appointments to come in to discuss their child’s progress. High House believes parents are best placed to extend the children’s learning and develop their ‘Cultural Capital’.
