ABSTRACT

Public education policy in the Republic of Croatia recognises the importance of collaboration between kindergarten and family as providing an indisputable advantage for the children. The Croatian National Curriculum for Early Childhood Education and Pre-school Education, or NKRPOO, lists partnership with parents as one of its basic principles. Partnership is determined by the discourse of an individual, conditions of the environment, and previous experiences of parents and kindergarten teachers. The role of a kindergarten teacher is to recognise the need for collaboration, to initiate collaboration, organise various ways of collaboration, and provide a choice for the parents in terms of starting the collaboration. The project links positive aspects of the transformation of existing experience, the development of unconditional empathy and recognition of diversity through play as an optimal learning model. Identifying parents’ affirmative attitudes towards the quality of kindergartens and kindergarten teachers is the starting point for developing partnerships.
