ABSTRACT

The parallels between curriculum and data strategy design illustrate the utility of starting with the end in mind. When designing a curriculum, the intended result is that learners learn. The key to data security is eliminating as much risk as possible without eliminating appropriate access. The solution to the human factor is education; there is no way around it. Data security practices and risk-awareness training should be incorporated into all onboarding, professional development, and annual review activities. One universally applicable solution to most challenges is having clearly defined terminology, intentions, actions, and anticipated results. Administrators’ campus-wide perspective allows them to view data from across the college or university to inform decisions about budget, resource allocation, and strategic actions. Student affairs professionals provide a wide array of programs and services. Students and their families are the most commonly overlooked audience in data strategy. More and more software solutions are moving to the cloud.
