ABSTRACT

The polish seaports have carrying out a complex process directed at adjusting the structures and rules of functioning to meet the new market requirements that have emerged and also to meet the rigorous conditions of international competition. The Act attempts to solve many of the problems faced by the management body, its financial autonomy, the issues relating to port infrastructure maintenance and the development of the port to meet European Union standards. The process of introducing rigorous models of port management and subordinating the ownership structure of land within the port borders to meet the conditions required in a market economy, should contribute to making the most of any development chances for Polish ports that might arise and the gradual growth of the competitiveness. The transformation process of the operational sector of Polish seaports has not created any barriers for continuing further transformation and privatisation of the port of Gdynia nor the Szczecin-Swinoujscie port complex.
