ABSTRACT

The Instruments for Greenhouse Gas Reduction Strategies model has been developed with the aim of deriving an instrument consisting of a set of models that evaluate the status of greenhouse gas emissions in Germany and study the impact of various strategies to reduce them. The model basically consists of five sub-projects: primary energy, conversion, households and small consumers, industry and transport. There is a high potential for energy saving and emission reduction in Germany concerning energy consumption for the space heating of private households. Nearly 77 per cent of the final energy consumption of 36 million private households is for space heating purposes and 12 per cent for water heating. The development of the energy demand and the resulting emissions of the residential sector can be estimated in view of the development of new buildings, new technologies and new materials as well as their cost.
