ABSTRACT

Scientists have been pointing to the grave danger posed by increasing greenhouse gas emissions to the climate as well as to the global economy. In accordance with scientists from all over the world the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change decided that the use of fossil fuels has to be reduced to achieve a stabilization effect of greenhouse gases in the earth’s atmosphere. Especially in India, increasing energy supply is a necessary condition for the economic growth to which the country is committed. The contributions cover German and Indian scenarios for greenhouse gas mitigation strategies, reduction measures, renewable energy utilization, and energy saving in the residential sector presenting German and Indian views and technological developments in both countries. The estimated technical potential for electricity generation is at least double the total existing generation capacity in India.
