ABSTRACT
Human rights are supposed to be the rights that one holds merely by virtue of being human. The basic approach to human rights is a moral one recognition often worth and dignity of the human-beings. The UN has made human rights 'the common language of humanity and the ultimate norm of all politics'. While the developed world refuses to accept any ranking of human rights or consider the human rights and political rights as mutually exclusive, the developing world has been insisting that certain categories of rights are more important than others and economic development must have priority to human rights abuse. The developing countries, in the wake of globalization and structural changes, are likely to develop a cynical posture towards civil and political versions of human rights for being rhetorical in content. Those on the other side may develop a similar attitude towards economic and social rights for a different set of considerations.
