As the issues of “Care in the Community” are of direct concern to the Chinese communities in Britain, the authors were recently employed by the King’s Fund Centre and the Health Education Authority to research the necessary information for Chinese carers. This chapter reviews the settlement of Chinese people in Britain and their problems, with particular reference to Liverpool. It discusses the method and results of a survey of difficulties and needs of Chinese carers in Liverpool. This provide a better understanding of Chinese carers generally, although limitations on space may incur the risk that any comments appear stereotypical. The difficulties and the needs of the Chinese community have existed since the first Chinese immigrants settled in Britain. Whether or not these needs can be addressed really depends on the Government policies. The Community Care Act 1990 is significant for service users.
