ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that BCIM-EC would not be of much benefit to India as far as India’s trade with China is concerned. Currently, the whole India–China trade flows through sea route. As the trade cost along maritime route is cheaper than the continental BCIM-EC route, there is no compelling economic argument either for India or to China to promote BCIM-EC. It suggests, rather than economic, China is more concerned with geo-strategic gains out of BCIM-EC.
