ABSTRACT
When discussing the development of law in this modern or postmodern period, particularly with an eye to its future in a time of unrest and upheaval, it is useful to reflect upon the future of the legal profession. The new forms of law will have to be interpreted, applied and perhaps also produced by jurists, and there will always be important correlations between the development of the law and society in general and the development of the role and tasks of the legal profession. The role of the legal profession is strongly influenced by the development of the law and society, and the jurists have a strong influence on the development of the law – perhaps especially on the development of private law.
