ABSTRACT

‘Death by Entertainment’ (Miskin, 1996): Natural Born Killers inspired two American teenagers to kill, at random, a man and seriously injure a woman. Others examples of similar ‘copycat crimes’ are well known. The view has been expressed that there could be a liability in tort of producers of violent films leading to such crimes. In America such cases have already been tried, some even with success (Miskin, 1996, 259). At a time when there seems to be very little interest in questions concerning ethically acceptable behaviour within the film industry a new form of censorship through tort law seems to be entering the scene.
