ABSTRACT
Indigenous survival happens through performance. Yet, the academic fields of Indigenous Studies and Performance Studies have been contentious towards one another because of the legacies of anthropology and colonialism. I demonstrate the utility of bringing the fields together. Through a critique of authenticity, recognition, and Indigenous performance economies, this chapter argues against the perceived staticness of Indigenous culture, narrating instead Indigenous transformation, process, movement, and change.
