ABSTRACT

This chapter examines a contemporary issue in event governance research, namely, sport event legacy governance. The increasing prevalence and importance of events on the global calendar has led to the development of a burgeoning literature on event studies. The central actor, which coordinates the network of stakeholders in a sport event, is usually the organising committee. In an effort to illustrate the governance system used to produce event legacies associated with the hosting of an edition of the Olympic Games, B. Leopkey and M. M. Parent explored the network of actors and the mechanisms responsible for steering collective action towards the event’s legacy goals and objectives. The governance of sports events can be visualised as a complex network of stakeholders. The ability to comprehend the roles and relationships can equip event managers and others within the LOC with tools to enable more effective governance of events.
