ABSTRACT

The Routledge Handbook of the Olympic and Paralympic Games features chapters written by leading experts from a range of disciplines and backgrounds (e.g. academics, athletes, administrators) and examines key themes, theories and issues within the wider field of ‘Olympic Studies’. It is divided into four main parts to establish the thematic coherence of the text. Part I, Athletes’ Issues in Olympic and Paralympic Games (edited by Dikaia Chatziefstathiou); Part II, Olympic and Paralympic Business (edited by Benoit Séguin); Part III, The Governance of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (edited by Borja García); Part IV, Socio-Cultural and Political Issues in the Olympic and Paralympic Games (edited by Dikaia Chatziefstathiou). This categorising facilitates the structure of this handbook and does not mean a compartmentalised treatment of these areas, which are rather fluid and interconnected. The editors concur that there are no disciplinary boundaries in understanding the phenomenon of the Games and thus we engage strongly with wider subjects and audiences.
