ABSTRACT

In this chapter we seek to scientifically illuminate the current problems and challenges of the Olympic Games as well as previous referendums on the Olympic Games. The aim is to better understand the current rejection of the Olympic Games in Western, democratic countries. Therefore we first deal with the citizens’ referendums against Olympic Games. To this end, direct-democratic procedures and their influence variables will first be discussed in general, before the state of research on referendums and the Olympic Games will be outlined.
