ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is not to describe in detail legislation relating to employment. There are many volumes and sources of information on this ever-changing subject area. Instead the chapter sets out to identify the general scope of employment law which may be subject to national political, economic, social and technological development. Key areas covered include contract law, pay, health and safety, rights of non-UK citizens, the role of trade unions, terminating employment. Examples of issues pertaining to the hospitality industry and its everyday operations are included throughout the chapter.
