ABSTRACT

This chapter examines key advances in information technology and digital HRM, and on the planning and decision-making processes. It considers the need for computerized HR systems and the more advanced cloud-based systems. It focuses on key constructs such as social media, gamification of HRM elements, Big Data, and online approaches to talent, performance and training management. It introduces readers to concepts such as the ‘Internet of Things’, and its effects on HR practices, and deals with the ever-increasing cyber-risk due to over-reliance on technology. Finally, the chapter examines the implications of both artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics for some HR and hospitality management functions. The chapter includes examples from the hospitality sector, a restaurant business mini case study and an expert interview regarding the future of this area.
