ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the recruitment process of attracting and fully engaging employees by both traditional and more contemporary, internet-based methods. Beginning with the strategic human resource planning context, there is consideration of operational workforce planning and of specific hospitality industry issues. The recruitment process is considered from both internal and external perspectives, from social media platforms to classified advertisements in local press. There is overall guidance on recruitment advertising, the generic principles of which apply to all forms of media used, and there are two case study extracts from hospitality to illustrate both the planning element and a hotel group’s contemporary recruitment strategy.
