ABSTRACT

In following the processes of resourcing the organization, this chapter outlines key aspects of the actual appointment of the selected candidate and their introduction to the firm and the work group. Firstly, the critical elements of a job offer procedure are considered, highlighting the most important features of an offer letter. Further examples of job acceptance and new starter formats are given, all designed to ensure a smooth appointment process. The remainder of the chapter concentrates on the induction process, increasingly referred to as ‘on-boarding’, which aims to introduce the new employee as effectively as possible for both the individual and the organization. The significance for the future performance and commitment of the new worker is stressed, the benefits of high quality induction procedures being considered in detail.
