ABSTRACT

This chapter shows how to use precision teaching to teach the basics needed for whatever subjects that is to taught. Once Precision teaching is started, procedures take only five to ten minutes of class time. Insuring mastery of basic skills saves time when those skills are needed. Precision Teaching sessions usually consist of short timed practice. Fluency facilitates creative behavior. Precision teaching is typically done every class period. The basic skills students need for problem solving or creative performance are rarely as fluent as one might think. Starting with assumed prerequisites is a good way to begin precision teaching. Precision teaching tells when to change procedures but charting by itself gives little information on what to change. Precision teaching quickly clarifies the skill levels of each of the students on the essential basics. The Standard Celeration Charts allow to see what needs work in each individual’s performance, all in a very small amount of class time.
